About KMI Zeolite

Our Zeolite

We have a unique mineral deposit consisting of 97% pure: Clinoptilolite Zeolite

KMI Zeolite has mining claims containing a naturally occurring mineral called clinoptilolite zeolite with a wide variety of applications across a wide range of industries.

Product Guide

Due to its unique molecular composition zeolite has incredible absorbent and adsorbent qualities. This versatile mineral is emerging as one of the most useful minerals being excavated today.

The first known uses of Zeolite can be traced back to B.C.E when Roman’s employed the mineral in their aquaducts, bridges and structures.  Pozzolans were also found to be used by the Mayans during the construction at Chichén Itzá.  Many of these pozzolanic structures have lasted thousands of years and required less energy-intensive processes than many modern construction materials.  Zeolite was not discovered in the USA until the 1950’s. In the 1970’s it was used in the treating of wastewater ammonia and radioactive material. As the mineral’s amazing filtration and absorption ability became more known, people started using it in pools in Europe and the USA. Since the 1980's, Zeolite has been identified for use in many different applications and as such has become a very valuable commodity.

People have only recently begun to realize the true potential and capabilities of zeolite. As a result, it has also been dubbed the mineral of the 21st century and new applications are continually being discovered around the world.

Clinoptilolite zeolite is a natural inorganic mineral that is formed when volcanic ash erupts into the atmosphere during violent explosions. The volcanic ash plumes often travel thousands of miles before they are deposited on the earth’s surface. Zeolites such as KMI’s clinoptilolite were formed when the volcanic flow lands in shallow marine basins, or in the presence of hydrothermal vents, where it crystallized under the right conditions for many years into an amazingly pure and highly effective hydrated aluminosilicate.

Because of how it is formed, naturally occurring zeolites are rarely found in such a pure form and are often contaminated by varying degrees of minerals such as metals, quartz or clays. Using low-grade zeolites that are contaminated by other minerals can be detrimental to the results, which makes it extremely important to source high-purity zeolite that is suited to the type of application involved. Zeolites’ porous, honeycomb like molecular structure allows it to accommodate and assist in the exchange of cations such as Rb+ Na+ Ba2+ Mg2+ Li+ Ag+ Sr2+ Fe3+ K+ Cd2+ Cu2+ Co3+ Cs+ Pb2+ Ca2+ Al3+ NH4+ Zn2+ Hg2+ Cr3+ and many others.

Our Company

For three generations, our family along with two long-term investment partners, have been mining, milling and distributing clinoptilolite zeolite. We believe that zeolite is an amazing mineral with a wide range of benefits and a bounty of household and commercial applications.

KMI Zeolite has recently relocated some of our milling equipment to a larger site with more access to resources and more potential for growth. We have partnered with experts in mining, hauling, crushing, screening and packaging in order to expand capacities and provide more reliability and consistency to our customers. We are proud to be among the top suppliers of this environmentally friendly mineral in North America and the western hemisphere.  With the recent zeolite processing expansions, KMI Zeolite is well-positioned with the highest production capacities in North America in order to serve our customers and facilitate their growth and success.

According to independent zeolite experts KMI “is unquestionably one of the largest and highest grade clinoptilolite deposits in the United States.” -F.A. Mumpton  KMI has independently proven reserve amounts of 53,700,000 tons of high purity clinoptilolite zeolite.  The drill core results were still in zeolite at depth and strike so it is likely the probably reserve amounts are closer to 100,000,000 tons.  Because of KMI Zeolite's unique purity and homogenous mineral deposit and dedication to quality control, we are certified for use in nuclear facilities in many countries and are the preferred solution for various methods of nuclear waste disposal and remediation for US Department of Energy Subcontractors.

KMI provides a large spectrum of gradations. Ask a KMI representative today for more information regarding your application and the gradation that would work best for you. KMI would be happy to mine, mill, micronize, package and supply you with high-quality clinoptilolite zeolite.  We also offer private label services for our business customers.
