KMI + Prime Growers Herbs
Prime Growers has been supplying tabletop herbs to high-end restaurants in Las Vegas for a decade, operating out of Southern California for over 10 years.
Bruce is the owner and operator of Prime Growers. We met him out at the farm one hot afternoon in May. Bruce has been using KMI Zeolite for over 10 years.
Because prime growers was nearby the old KMI operation, Bruce was able to utilize some old stockpile of our product back when he was starting out and since then he has remained a customer for all these years.
The primary operation of Prime Growers is the cultivation of annual herbs. From parsley and oregano to thyme and rosemary, Prime Growers supplies all types of herbs.
The facility encompasses 30 greenhouses over about 5 acres.
Bruce swears by zeolite and has been adding it to his growing soil for many years as an amendment. Bruce uses the KMI Zeolite all-purpose powder as well as the 4×8 granular. The powder is mixed directly into the soil beds to increase the water holding and nutrient holding capacity
Bruce adds about 1” of powdered zeolite into the soil each crop cycle and tills it into the soil. He claims that you cannot easily overdo it when it comes to incorporating zeolite into a sand/loom soil like he has.
Bruce also incorporates 4 x 8 mesh zeolite into his herb growing system. One of the particular aspects of his business is that Prime Growers delivers growing herbs to restaurants. Normally this would mean that the herb is still in soil, in a pot, with drainage holes along the bottom.
However by incorporating the 4×8 mesh zeolite into his system Bruce was able to create a drainage layer along the bottom of an enclosed pot. Because of the zeolite, which has millions of passageways containing nutrients, moisture and oxygen available for the plant the roots do not rot or become anaerobic.
This allowed him to deliver a healthy plant without the worry of dirty water leaking out the bottom. This has served him well for years.
